The linked project theme for this week is trees, but though I thought and tried as much as I could, photo inspiration just didn’t hit me. The guitar, however, is sort of like a tree, right? It’s made from trees anyway, and it is beautiful like a tree, and I love it like I love trees. And the coolest thing about the guitar is that my dear husband is teaching me to play it.
Being a musician who loves to play piano and make music with our children, Matt thinks it might benefit our family connection and ignite our children’s interest in learning to play music if I am joining in the music-making with them. Just between you and me, I think he aspires for us to one day be a touring family band, complete with VW bus… but in the meantime he thinks it will be fun to have piano, guitar, drums and singing all going on together in a simple family ritual of merry music-making. So I’m learning and really enjoying it– it is easy to learn, quick to pick up throughout the day, something I can do while still engaging with the kids, and, other than being able to make lovely sounds, the coolest thing about learning to play is that when I practice the children become very calm, focused, and quiet, which means I also get space to practice. Pretty cool!

i loved watching my boyfriend learn the guitar, and also saw how the callus built up on his fingers. he bought me a ukulele last year, but i am so uncoordinated it’s not even funny. i don’t know why learning piano was so much more easy…

Anna - I love this! My kids drag out the pots and pans, drumsticks, microphones, whistles, spoons and tambourine when I start playing. They are way in to it but it’s tough to “practice”. However, I always have accompaniment.
