hatching butterflies

May 1, 2012

I bought an Insect Lore butterfly garden for the kids (and us).  We got a cup with five caterpillars which grew over a the course of a week or so, and then we got to watch them change into butterflies.  It was really a very cool and interesting experience for all of us.  This thing we all “know” happens has now been transformed into a real, living experience for us– we now truly do “know” what this amazing process looks like and, as with all living and growing things, it was very exciting to witness.

That is very cool, I’ve never seen one before. Definitely going to need to pick one up for the kids (and me *S*)

Your pictures look bautiful. We have not done the butterfly thing yet. I think we are going to try insect lores ant hill first. We are rowing “Trumans Aunt Farm” for fun so I figured it would be a really cool enrichment activity.
