cilento: marina di camerota

Jun 30, 2018

For Memorial Day weekend, when Matt finally had a few days off in a row, we headed south to the Cilento coast.  We wanted to stay in a little town, go to the beach, and hike in Cilento National Park… and that’s just what we did!  The mountains in Cilento are quite magnificent; we are excited to have found a wild place to go that is only a couple of hours from home.  We stayed in an apartment in downtown Marina di Camerota, a fishing village on the coast.  It is sometimes  a little stressful to navigate our way through towns when we don’t understand the language, what to eat, where to eat, how to find our apartment or how to negotiate the contract of our stay, but we survived those things and succeeded in all of them.  There are so many cultural differences, and often we feel a little bit… well, glaringly different and stared at.  But, still, it was pleasant to walk through the vine and flower lined alleys, eat fresh fish at a patio garden restaurant, watch the people strolling by from morning until late into the night, learn about things like cornetti filled with nutella, and find kindness and care from Italians wherever we went.
