sorrento and bagni della regina giovanna

Oct 12, 2018

Columbus Day offered a long weekend for Matt, so we headed out to Sorrento!  First we visited the town, which is full of all things lemon… and tourists!  I don’t think I’ve heard so much English spoken since we’ve been in Italy, nor seen so many other Americans at once (aside from the Navy base).  We ran into our good friends there, which was so fun!  After wandering through town, we drove about ten minutes out of town to a hidden beach called Bagni della Regina Giovanna (Baths of Queen Giovanna).  The name “Bagni della Regina Giovanna” dates back to the popular tradition according to which Giovanna II of Durazzo ( 1373-1435) Queen of Naples, would entertain her lovers here in the waters of the beautiful natural swimming pool.  It was gorgeous, and fun for all of us; as the kids and I seem to appreciate nature adventures much more than city ones.
