umbria: fabro, bagni san filippo, and assisi

Nov 15, 2019

I am so lucky!  I decided to be a groupie, leave the kids at home, and follow the Rock Band up to their gig in Umbria.  I knew I was going to be able to spend the night in the accomodations reserved by the Navy Band, but none of us knew how great it would be.  We arrived at Poggiovalle, an agriturismo on a large amount of farmland, where we were treated to great hospitality, a perfect apartment, and lovely views of country, cows, and fall leaves.  Then our whole group was served a multi-course lunch of food produced on their land, including hunks of delicious steak.

After lunch I took myself to Bagni San Filippo, a small hot spring in the woods, where I relaxed in peace (unbelievably, I was one of just a few people there) in a hot pool while watching the trees move in the breeze and listening to the sound of waterfalls all around me.  It was sooooo good.  I returned to find that Matt and the Band had been rained out of the festival they were supposed to play in the village of Fabro, so they played in a church while I walked around the town, visited the booths of the tiny festival, and wished I could see the beautiful views during daylight.  After the festival, we were again treated to a multi-course meal in a beautiful restaurant, where we got to watch our steaks cook before we ate them.

The next day Matt and I visited the town of Assisi, ate more delicious food (including truffle pasta), and wandered the streets and shops of the gorgeous town.

around here: parties, dates, festivals, scouts, friends, dinners and Thanksgiving
skulls, bones... and pizza
