warsaw

Dec 2, 2019

For our Thanksgiving weekend, we flew (with Matt this time!!!) to Warsaw, Poland.  Matt had been to Krakow and loved it, and the flights and price worked out to check out Warsaw for 4 days.  We had a blast together eating all the food, enjoying the cheap prices for just about everything, learning to navigate public transportation, and finding fun things to do that we would all enjoy.  We did a lot of things people can do in bigger cities (that we haven’t been able to do here in Naples) like go to the movie theater (it was in English with Polish subtitles), spend half a day at an awesome science museum, and solve an Escape Room.  I was disappointed that the Christmas markets weren’t a thing there, but we did enjoy the one we found.  We drank a lot of mulled wine and big glasses of beer, and we discovered mulled beer and bison-grass vodka.  It was COLD to our Italy-adapted bodies, so we thawed out every few hours in a cafe, restaurant or shop (except Matt, who loves the cold, and Cedar with his “canvas shoes” and furry hat).  While I prefer more tourist-oriented cities, Warsaw is amazing to see, as it has gone from complete destruction during WW2, to a vibrant, healthy, growing city today.  We saw many high-rise buildings in the process of being built; it is crazy to see how far the city has come in such a short time.
