We went to Gran Sasso National Park in the mountainous Abruzzo region, about 3 hours away from us.  We had a really, really good time.  Maybe our best family trip yet.  We loved everything about it– the towns, the mountains, the cool air, the cleanliness, the hiking, the landscape, the cabin, the food, the games we played and the conversations we had.
