For President’s Day weekend, we decided to go somewhere.  We have to stay in our region of Campania still, but lucky for us, Campania is big and beautiful.  We visited the Cilento coast, about 2 hours south of Naples, and stayed in an apartment overlooking the sea.  It was very cold this weekend, so we were happy to use someone else’s heat!  We walked and ate, mostly.  We went a little stir-crazy without being able to enjoy lounging in the sun on the beach and the patio.  We argued and laughed, and talked and learned.  I felt sad at the emptiness of the place, both due to the season and to Covid.  Usually right now Carnevale would be in full swing, filling most towns with confetti, parade floats, and costumed people.  I hope we can see this amazingly perfect beach town this summer full of people, and that we get to enjoy Carnevale next February before we leave Italy.  Even with the quiet, though, Italy is just so amazingly, gloriously, mind-blowingly gorgeous.
