jean and elizabeth: ruins, sea glass, caserta, beach, pizza, vomero, paestum and cribbage

Oct 27, 2021

We pretty much did something every day while Jean and Elizabeth were here, even if it was only a trip to walk on the beach or a travel day.  We did Herculaneum (a smaller, more intact version of Pompeii), a sea-glass hunt on the beach where all the pottery and glass is, a rainy day walk on our local beach with shopping for local food in our neighborhood, and a lot of runs out to catch the sunset on the beach.

We took a trip to Caserta Palace and Gardens, along with lunch at an award-winning pizzeria. We hiked above and then walked through the old village of Casertavecchia.

We went to the movie theater and got gelato (we realized, after nearly 4 years, that they sometimes play movies here in English with Italian subtitles).

I’m going out of order, here, for the sake of combining blog posts.  We took some trips out of town, then came back and finished the trip off with a trip to relax the beach, a market shopping trip in Vomero (Jean was a PRO, elbowing her way in like a champ), and a visit to the temples of Paestum.

Through it all, Cedar and Grandma played endless games of cribbage!
